• Alcoholic hepatitis is the inflammation of the liver. Symptoms include abdominal pain, loss of appetite, nausea, fever and jaundice.
  
  

Cirrhosis

• Cirrhosis is a condition resulting when liver tissue replaces scar tissue. The damage to the liver caused by alcoholic cirrhosis is permanent and life-threatening.
  
  

Time Frame

• Liver disease arising from excessive alcohol consumption typically occurs after five or more years of such drinking. The liver is often able to repair itself after mild or moderate damage.
