How to Harvest Bay Scallops
- 1). Acquire all required licenses. Check local regulations for dates of harvesting season as well as regional restrictions.
- 2). Select a harvest spot that has the same regulations for both the boat landing and the harvest bed. It is important not to harvest in one county, for example, and land the boat in another county that has different regulations.
- 3). Search for scallops at the bottoms of seabeds. Gather them by hand or by using a small dipping net. If gathering by hand, consider wearing gloves -- scallops can pinch.
- 4). Clean the scallops as quickly as possible. If you are not cleaning them while on the water, place them on ice immediately.
