  Big-box stores are full of flashy plastic toys designed to entice both your little boy and you. But you probably remember that some of your own favorite toys were ones you created yourself from the likes of big boxes and sheets. You can use that same imagination today to make Christmas toys for your little guy. Chances are that your homemade gift will delight him more than one of those plastic things from the big box-store.
  
  

Tent

• One activity that can keep a boy occupied for hours is building a huge tent with blankets strategically placed over pieces of furniture. Make your son a tent kit by sewing together large pieces of cloth. Use heavy fabrics that keep light from shining through. Use your imagination in selecting the patterns and colors, and tailor the tent to your boy's tastes. If he likes firefighters, choose red fabric with fire trucks, or if he adores the latest movie character, purchase licensed fabric featuring that movie. Place the material in a bag or suitcase, add a flashlight to enhance his escapades inside the tent and present it to him at Christmas.
  
  

Huge Building Blocks

• Boys enjoy building with blocks. Give your boy a life-size block set made from boxes and paint or paper. Printing and copy stores often have a surplus of paper boxes in a uniform size and shape, and they may be willing to give them away. Put the boxes' lids on and tape them shut. Then paint them in bold colors or cover them in colorful paper. Have plenty of boxes so the child can build structures that tower over his head.
  
  

Car Rug

• Design a car rug so your boy can drive his miniature cars and trucks to his heart's content. Buy a large piece of heavy fabric or canvas, and plan out the landmarks and roads to include. Add his favorite places -- his house, the park, the ice cream shop, his grandparents' house -- with roads connecting them so that he can direct his vehicles from location to location. Use fabric paint or heavy-duty permanent marker to ensure that the map stays in place for years of enjoyment.
