Gay and Conservative?

I heard this quote once, and I don't really remember exactly what is was or who said it, but it went something like, "If you're conservative when you're young, you have no heart.
If you're liberal when you're old, you have no brains.
" Thinking back, I did completely unknowingly fit quite a few gay stereotypes like being a vegetarian and hanging out with guys more than my female friends and other things like that, but one thing that I don't fit at all is the political stance.
I took this test in my Government class in high school that was supposed to determine if you were liberal or conservative and it was on a scale from 1-100, with a lower score being liberal and a higher score being conservative.
I scored 52.
Now, this test was incredibly transparent with every question and I remember thinking while I'm taking the test I don't want to be conservative, I hope I'm not conservative.
And I would have scored much higher on the conservative side if I hadn't had that in mind the entire time.
I've come to realize over the past few years that, with me, I'm almost completely on the conservative on every issue...
except when it comes to gay rights.
Whenever that comes up, I completely switch sides.
And honestly, I feel terrible about that.
I also feel like the issues that separate liberal from conservative are not split up quite right.
Why is it that because I think gays should have the right to be able to get married, I should also think that abortion should be legal? I don't want to have a whole debate, but I'm just saying, life's not that black and white.
Am I wrong?
