How to Make Butter Softer

104 1
    • 1). Remove the butter from the wax paper wrapping. Put the butter in a covered butter dish. Let the butter soften as it warms to room temperature. Keep the butter dish on the kitchen counter or in the pantry rather than storing it in the refrigerator. In the winter, when the weather is cooler, put your butter in a stainless steel butter dish and keep the dish on the kitchen counter near the stove.

    • 2). Leave butter in sticks on the counter to soften at room temperature for 24 hours. Place softened butter in a mixing bowl. Whip butter with an electric mixer or stick blender until the butter is light and fluffy. Store whipped butter in a covered plastic storage container in the refrigerator between uses. Mixing air into butter makes it softer and helps it melt faster on food items such as bread, muffins and baked potatoes.

    • 3). Blend butter with olive oil to make a soft butter spread. Let butter soften at room temperature. Mix 2 parts butter with 1 part olive oil. Blend ingredients together with an electric mixer until smooth. Olive oil does not harden when refrigerated, so it keeps the butter spread soft. Store the butter in a covered plastic food storage container in the refrigerator.
