- Audiologists earned median annual salaries of $66,660, according to the May 2010 Bureau of Labor Statistics' report. Those in the middle 50 percent earned salaries between $54,080 and $82,620 per year. The top 10 percent made more than $102,210 annually. These medical professionals earned average salaries of $69,840. They are usually eligible for certain benefits, including life and hospital insurance, paid holidays and vacations and retirement savings plans.
- Audiologists' salaries can vary somewhat by industry. They earned their highest average annual salaries working in outpatient care centers at $81,930, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Those working for local government agencies also earned relatively high salaries of $74,820 per year. Ear specialists earned above average salaries working in general medical and surgical hospitals at $72,320 annually. They earned salaries closer to the national average in physicians' offices at $69,570 per year. And those in elementary and secondary schools made slightly less at $64,510 per year.
- Audiologists can also earn higher salaries in certain states. Many times higher salaries are warranted in areas with higher living costs. They may also receive higher salaries when there's a dearth of these medical professionals in certain regions or medical facilities. Whatever the case, those in New Jersey earned the highest annual salaries at $97,050, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics' information. They earned the second highest salaries in Kentucky at $89,740 annually. Those in Maryland earned slightly less than the national average at $67,560 per year. And ear specialists earned salaries of only $60,560 per year in West Virginia.
- The number of jobs for audiologists is expected to increase 25 percent between 2008 and 2018, according to December 2009 data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This job growth rate is considered "faster than average" compared to other professions. A growing population will spur many of these additional jobs, especially among an increasing number of elderly people. Jobs will also be added as enrollments at elementary and secondary schools increase.
