    • 1). Drain any water from the hot tub. Remove any loose items that are not attached to the hot tub.

    • 2). Wear rubber gloves that are appropriate for cleaning a bathroom.

    • 3). Inspect the tub for residual scum rings, spots, marks or raised areas indicating that additional scrubbing is required. Be sure to include drains, water jets, filters, handles, steps, seats, lighting and walls in your inspection.

    • 4). Wet a soft scouring pad and pour some scouring powder onto it. Using small circular motions, scour the scum areas until they are smooth and free of buildup. Take care not to damage the tub's surface.

    • 5). Rinse the entire area from above using a shower spray or garden hose. Spray water and rinse until the residual cleaning particles are drained away and water runs clear.

    • 6). Fill tub with cold or warm water to a level covering all water jets but not any air intake valves. Add liquid bleach in a proportion of 3/4-cup bleach to each gallon of water. Figure the amount of bleach you'll need beforehand so water doesn't overflow.

    • 7). Turn the jets on to allow circulation of water through the system. Run for about 10 minutes, and then completely drain the water after turning off the jets.

    • 8). Fill the tub with clear water and run jets to allow circulation throughout the system. Operate the jets for a few minutes and then drain the water. Allow tub to air dry.
