The Comcast DVR (digital video recorder) is a popular device used to record television programs. The DVR allows users to record a program manually or automatically and then watch it later. The recorded program may be fast-forwarded, rewound, paused or played in slow motion. Even live television may be manipulated using the DVR, further enhancing the television viewing experience for users.

    Manual Options

    • Using your DVR menu, manually search through upcoming programming to find shows, movies or other programs you would like to see but cannot watch live. Select these programs and set them to record. They will be stored in your DVR until you watch or delete them. IPhone and iPod Touch customers can record programs from remote locations. Enhance your live television viewing experience by pausing the program for a few minutes. When you resume, fast-forward through commercials.

    Automatic Recording

    • Set the DVR to record each episode of a weekly series or perform a search of programming to find your areas of interest by keyword; for instance, "Bette Davis." The DVR displays all upcoming programs relating to your keyword. Either manually select programs to record or automatically record programming related to the topic of your search.

    Control Features

    • Comcast's DVR controls include several features to make your experience simple and enjoyable. Auto-correction allows you to pause and restart your program without missing a second. Folders allow you to organize your recorded programs, and the History feature ensures you'll never automatically record the same program twice. You may select multiple programs at once to quickly delete all of them. You also have the option to record two shows while watching something you've already recorded.

    High Definition DVR

    • High Definition DVRs from Comcast have several added features as compared to standard DVRs, including the ability to record in HD. While the standard DVR has 80 GB of storage, the HD DVR has 500 GB. This means that while the standard DVR can hold up to 45 hours of programming, the HD DVR holds up to 300 hours of standard recordings or 60 hours of programming in high definition.
