How to Check the Status of an FHA Loan

104 2
    • 1). Submit your FHA loan application. Before your application begins processing, you must submit the following documents: income documents (pay stubs, W2s), proof of homeowners insurance coverage and property tax information. Without these documents, an FHA underwriter cannot process the application.

    • 2). Write down the FHA Case Number assigned to your loan application. This unique number will allow your lender and underwriter to electronically locate your specific loan application. Make sure to keep this number handy when it is assigned.

    • 3). Review the RESPA (Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act) documents sent to you after you applied for your FHA loan. Find the Special Information Booklet. This package of information will outline the time line and process for an FHA approval. You can accurately determine the stage of your current loan.

    • 4). Contact your lender if you still do not know the status of your loan, or if you haven't heard from your lender in a few days. Provide your loan officer with your unique FHA case number. She will be able to pull up your loan application and electronically determine the status of your loan.
