- 1). Thread the fishing line through the center of the metal loop on the tip of the fishing pole, then thread the line through each successively larger loop until the line runs through the center of all loops on the rod.
- 2). Insert the tip of the fishing line through the hole in the center of the line guide. The line guide is located at the top of the reel and faces the tip of the fishing rod.
- 3). Feed the fishing line over the top of the reel’s spool, then push the fishing line underneath the spool until the line can be accessed from the bottom of the spool.
- 4). Tie the fishing line into a knot around the reel’s spool.
- 5). Clip away any excess fishing line left by the knot with a pair of fishing line cutters.
- 6). Grasp the fishing line along with the rod above the reel with one hand.
- 7). Crank the fishing reel’s handle with one hand while maintaining tension on the fishing line with the other hand until the reel’s spool is full.
