Does Fruity Loops Work on 64 Bit Systems?

    Fruity Loops Operation

    • Fruity Loops is capable of running on both 32- and 64-bit systems. There is no version of Fruity Loops that runs exclusively on 64-bit systems; the same version of Fruity Loops runs on both. This is because Fruity Loops is programmed using the Delphi programming language.

    Delphi

    • Delphi lacks the ability to compile programs in 64-bit mode. A Delphi 64-bit compiler is under development, as of July 2011, but has been delayed several times. Once Delphi is fully capable of compiling 64-bit commercial applications, then Fruity Loops may be released with exclusive 64-bit versions. However, there is no telling how long this will take after Delphi's 64-bit compiler is released in an official capacity.

    32-bit vs. 64-bit

    • Generally, there are few obstacles to running a 32-bit program on a 64-bit system. Some 32-bit drivers may cause problems when run on 64-bit systems. However, the main drivers to consider when running Fruity Loops are the drivers for your computer's audio system, which are independent of Fruity Loops. Therefore, Fruity Loops can be run on a 64-bit system without too much complication. In fact, because a 64-bit system can allocate more RAM to processor tasks, you may see improved performance of Fruity Loops on a 64-bit system.

    64-bit Plug-ins

    • Fruity Loops recently integrated support for 64-bit plug-ins into its basic software platform. Because plug-ins are separately-developed pieces of software, these are not affected by the Delphi compiler limitations. This support for 64-bit plug-ins shows a movement toward full 64-bit optimization upon the release of a Delphi 64-bit compiler. If you try to use the 64-bit plug-ins on a 32-bit system, however, you will likely encounter problems.
