    System Restore

    • 1). Press "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" simultaneously to open Windows Task Manager.

    • 2). Select "File" and then "New Task." In the Run command line, type the path "C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe."

    • 3). To run an already existing System Restore Point, click the "Restore System to an Earlier Time" button. Windows usually creates Restore Points before downloading or installing Windows Updates.

    • 4). Select the most recent point before your computer began malfunctioning and click "Next." Allow System Restore to run. When finished, it will automatically restart your computer.

    • 5). If System Restore doesn't work, choose an earlier restore point.

    Last Known Good Configuration

    • 1). To boot to the "Last Known Good Configuration," press and hold "F8" immediately after you power up your computer. According to Microsoft, Last Known Good Configuration focuses on files within the Windows directory to fix problems with the boot process or to repair drivers.

    • 2). At the Advanced Boot Options menu, highlight "Last Known Good Configuration."

    • 3). Press "Enter." If you take too long to choose a boot option, Windows will automatically pick the one highlighted.

    • 4). Allow the system to boot.
