    Three-Cylinder Tractors

    • In 1974, Massey-Ferguson produced five models of three-cylinder tractors. The 135, 138 and 150 came with 38-horsepower Perkins diesel engines. The 140 was a 43-horsepower Perkins and the 154 upped the power to 50 horsepower. The 150 model included a Mexican-built variant with a Continental engine.

    Four-Cylinder Tractors

    • The most widely-produced Massey Ferguson tractors in 1974 were the seven four-cylinder models. The 175 featured a 63-horsepower Perkins engine, available in diesel or gasoline variants. The 180 and 174 were 64-horsepower and 65-horsepower diesels, respectively, and the 180 offered an optional gasoline engine. The 185 and 188 had 70-horsepower to 75-horsepower all-diesel Perkins engines. The 285 series topped off at 81 horsepower. The most powerful four-cylinder 1974 Massey Ferguson tractor was the 82-horsepower Model 1085.

    Six-Cylinder Tractors

    • Power output of Massey Ferguson tractors leaped in 1974 with three six-cylinder models. The 1200 had a 91-horsepower Perkins diesel engine. Models 1105 and 1135 broke into the three-digit horsepower ratings at 111 horsepower and 121 horsepower, respectively.

    Eight-Cylinder Tractors

    • The 1970s saw the introduction of eight-cylinder Massey Ferguson tractors, plus a new engine manufacturer. There were five eight-cylinder models produced in 1974. The 1155 model had a 141-horsepower Perkins engine. The remaining models were all powered by Caterpillar diesels. The 1500 and 1505 produced 141 horsepower and 145 horsepower, respectively. The 1800 jumped to 171 horsepower. The most powerful Massey Ferguson tractor built in 1974 was the Model 1805: its big Cat eight-cylinder produced 193 horsepower.
