Highway Traffic Act 142
- Drivers must signal when they make a left or right turn at any time from their vehicle. All signaling must be done after visually verifying that it is safe to turn. Additionally, drivers must signal before they leave from a parked position or if they are stopping.
- The act allows for manual or electrical signaling, depending on the type of vehicle. The manual signal for a left turn is the left hand extended horizontally beyond the vehicle; the manual signal for a right turn is the right hand extended upward and beyond the vehicle.
- Section 142 also includes provisions for yielding to a bus in a bus bay. All drivers must yield to buses entering and exiting a bus bay as soon as the driver of the bus has signaled his intention to move.
