    Problems with desktop software installation

    • 1). Make sure your computer profile has administrator rights; in a large organization, these rights will usually only be granted by the system administrator.

    • 2). Restart your computer.

    • 3). Close any active applications, including virus scanners and Internet security applications.

    • 4). Make sure that you are installing the Palm Software Installation CD that came with your Palm 700. Older versions of the software will not work.

    • 5). Insert the Palm Software Installation CD and restart the installation.

    Resetting the phone

    • 1). Remove the battery door and gently press the tip of the stylus on the reset button that is located on the back of your phone to perform a soft reset of the Palm Treo 700. A soft reset is a good technique in situations when the smartphone is not responding. All of your information is retained while performing a soft reset.

    • 2). To perform a system reset: slide the battery door downward to reveal the battery; press and hold the up arrow while gently using the tip of the stylus to press the reset button. When the logo appears onscreen, press the up arrow again and delete the application you think is causing the problem. Perform a soft reset. It is good to perform a system reset when the smartphone loops or freezes after a soft reset. Basically, a system reset tells the phone to stop installing third-party applications and releases the phone from an endless looping pattern.

    • 3). To perform a hard reset: remove the battery door; press and hold the "End" button while using the tip of the stylus to gently press the reset button on the back of the phone. Continue holding the "End" button until the logo appears onscreen. A prompt that says "Erase all data?" will appear onscreen. Press the up arrow to choose yes. A hard reset of the phone erases all information and third-party software from the phone.

    Screen Issues: Screen appears blank

    • 1). Press any button on the Treo to make sure that the screen is not just dim because the light has gone off after the amount of time specified in the Power Preferences setting in the menu.

    • 2). Perform a soft reset.

    • 3). Charge the battery on the phone. (if the problem persists after the soft reset).

    • 4). Perform a hard reset if the problem persists.
