State of Florida Golf Cart Regulations
Time Frame
Golf cart regulations in Florida allow operators of golf carts to drive during daylight hours. If, however, the golf cart has headlights, turn signals, brake lights and a windshield, it can be operated anytime, including between sunset and sunrise.
Warning
Because Florida does not have an age limit on who can legally operate a golf cart, children are allowed to drive them, as are adults, even those who do not have a driver's license. This includes adults who would otherwise not have been able to pass a driving test because of poor vision. Although a golf cart is not considered a particularly dangerous vehicle, if proper instruction is not given or understood, accidents can occur. Also, people with poor vision need to be extra-cautious when driving a golf cart to avoid an accident.
Geography
A golf cart is considered a motor vehicle that is manufactured for use on a golf course for recreational purposes. Each state sets its own guidelines as to where a golf cart can be operated. Florida statutes allow operators to drive on roadways during certain hours, providing the vehicle has certain safety features.
