How to Boot a Computer in Windows XP With No Disk
- 1). Visit Microsoft's Support page (linked in Resources) to download a free copy of the setup disks for your version of Windows XP. These disks are available for Home, Premium, and the various XP service packs, so be sure to select the appropriate version for your particular computer.
- 2). Download the disk "set" and the included setup program, saving them to your hard drive. The setup program is a utility that allows you to create the required boot disks from blank floppies, circumventing your lack of a Windows XP disk.
- 3). Run the setup utility and follow the on-screen instructions, inserting the disks when prompted in order to create the usable boot disks. Be sure to write down the number of the disk as it is created to avoid accidentally inserting the wrong disk during the boot process.
- 4). Insert the first boot disk into the floppy drive, and restart your computer. When the computer asks you to "Press any key to boot from disk," press any key, and the computer begins the boot process, loading into Windows XP.
