If you've resided in Canada as a permanent occupant for three of the last four years, perhaps it's time to apply for Canadian nationality. Every year about 170,000 permanent residents become Canadian citizens. Here's how to apply for Canadian citizenship and be one of them. 1. Meet the eligibility requirements to apply for Canadian nationality defined by Canada Immigration and Nationality. 2. Find out about Canada. You must be able to qualify on the test about human rights and responsibilities of Canadian residency and learn about Canada's political system, history and geography. You will be supply with a study guide.
3. Fill in the nationality application form, following the instructions on the form carefully. Read the guide that goes with the application form thoroughly before you finalize the form, as the request cost are not refundable.
4. Pay the application fees and get the appropriate receipt. The amount of the fees will be listed on the request form. Attach the fee acknowledgment to your citizenship application form.
5. Have two residency photos taken to meet the photo provision outlined in the citizenship request. Print the name of the person in the photo on the back of the photographs. Place the two photos in a small envelope.
6. Sign and date the residency application form.
7. Attach the required documents to the request form. Documents include a copy of your immigration landing record, copies of two pieces of identification, and the two nationality photos. Mail the application to the address given in the nationality application guide.
8. Once your request for Canadian residency is received, you will be sent a copy of the free study manual. Begin studying the book as soon as you receive it. You will receive a Notice to Appear for a Residency Test. Appear on the date and time at the address in the Notice, and take the written residency test or interview as requested.
9. If you meet all the prerequisite you will be given a Notice to Appear to Take the Oath of Citizenship. Appear on the date and time at the address in the Notice, and take the Oath of Citizenship.
You should not have any problem getting a visa if you follow these information correctly. It might take some time but be patient and sooner or later you will be granted of your most awaited residency.
