- 1). Open the container of worms and pull one out. Fish aren’t too picky about their worm, so you don’t have to be selective.
- 2). Cut the worm in half. The part of the worm that you are putting on your hook should be about 4 inches long. This will be enough worm to cover the hook,and leave a little bit dangling off of the end. The easiest way to do this is to grab the worm tightly in one hand at about the 4-inch mark, and use the thumb and first finger on your other hand to grab and pull the worm. The worm will come apart pretty easily.
- 3). Grab the hook at the end of your fishing pole. Keep hold of the top the hook at the “eye” of the hook with your left hand.
- 4). Stick the worm onto the hook. The point of the hook should be stuck into the middle of the worm lengthwise. This means that the hook will not be seen and the worm will look like it’s part of the hook. If you use the part of the worm that was torn off, the hook will go into the worm much easier.
- 5). Slide the remainder of the worm up the hook. The worm should travel easily along the metal of the hook. When the end of the worm reaches the eye of the fishing hook, pull the other end down so that the hook pops out of the side of the worm. This will ensure that the worm stays in place while casting, and will leave a nice little tail on the end of the hook that will move around in the water and attract fish.
