- 1). Click "Start," then "Control Panel." The Windows Control Panel opens in a new window.
- 2). Click the arrow next to the "View By:" option in the corner of the screen. Choose either "Large Icons" or "Small Icons" from the drop-down list. The list of options in the Control Panel expands to include previously hidden subcategories.
- 3). Click "Java." The Java Control Panel appears.
- 4). Open the "Update" tab.
- 5). Click the box next to "Check for Updates Automatically" to remove the check mark. A warning dialog window appears.
- 6). Click "Never Check."
- 7). Click "OK" on the Java Control Panel to save the change.
