How to Crop a Layer in Illustrator
- 1). Click on the "Window" menu and select "Layers" to open the layers panel. Make sure that the artwork you want to crop is all on the same layer.
- 2). Select the "Rectangle" tool.
- 3). Draw a rectangle on top of the area that you want to crop.
- 4). Click on the "Make Clipping Mask" icon at the bottom of the Layers panel. The clipping mask will hide anything within the layer that falls outside the topmost path in the layer.
- 1). Select the "Rectangle" tool.
- 2). Draw a rectangle around the area that you want to crop.
- 3). Click on the "Window" menu and select "Pathfinder" to open the Pathfinder panel.
- 4). Select the "Selection" tool. Draw a rectangle around the objects that you want to crop and the rectangle to select them.
- 5). Click on the "Crop" icon, the fourth icon in the "Pathfinder" section of the Pathfinder panel. The objects will crop to the size of the box and all strokes will be removed.
- 6). Select the "Selection" tool. Click on the objects to select them. Hold down the "Shift" key as you click to select multiple objects. Click on the "Window" menu and select "Stroke." Apply the desired attributes to the stroke of the cropped objects.
