What Is Considered a Violation of Court Supervision?

104 19

    Types

    • An individual under court supervision must abide by all laws. She may need to pay fines, complete community service hours, attend substance abuse counseling and comply with any other specific court-ordered terms. Failure to abide by any of these requirements constitutes a violation of court supervision.

    Considerations

    • Even though the offense could eventually be expunged, a traffic ticket may still appear on the offender's record and impact insurance fees. Some employers and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Department could also use this information against the offender.

    Consequences

    • If an individual does not comply with court supervision requirements, she will return to court and receive a harsher penalty. This could include higher fines, jail time, additional work order hours or additional sanctions as the court sees fit.
