Disabled Employment Rights - What Do They Mean?

These are powerful words.
Whenever we talk about basic human rights it is not to be taken lightly.
Unfortunately they are only words and no matter which way you look at it, discrimination does happen in the workplace whether it be because of our color, our sex, our age or our physical and mental state, it happens.
Is it right? Well of course not.
Should we accept it? No.
So what exactly are our disabled employment rights? Basically your employment rights are protected under the employee discrimination act which say's no employer may discriminate in any way based on your physical disability.
They may not hire employee's, fire employee's, determine remuneration for employee's or effect career advancement for employee's based on an employees physical disability.
It doesn't get clearer cut than that does it? In a nutshell as a disabled employee you have exactly the same rights as any other employee and in fact there are some additional rights reserved for disabled people.
The most obvious is that an employer is obliged to unsure that the disable employee is not put at a disadvantage because of the physical nature of the work environment, in other words the employer needs to make adjustments to work environment in order to accommodate disabled employees.
Sounds great! Is it a reality? Absolutely not.
In some third world countries the discrimination is downright blatant and almost cruel.

Many 1st world countries such as the US have open policies concerning disabled employment rights and in many cases these rights are exercised, but a lot of the time it is merely a smoke screen.
