How to Cut a Little Boy's Hair With Clippers and Scissors
- 1). Sit your child down on a backless stool so you can reach all sides of his head without him needing to move.
- 2). Dry your little boy's hair completely before starting to cut it. Clippers don't work well on damp hair.
- 3). Place a short guard on the clipper to start. A #4 snap-on metal blade with a plastic guard works well for the back and sides of the hair.
- 4). Slide the clipper up the back of the boy's neck to trim the hair along the neck as short as you can. As you trim, use a scooping motion to pull the clipper away from the back of the head and toward the sides at about a 45-degree angle, so there is an angled area hanging down in the back.
- 5). Shift to the sides and clip the sides of the neck and up around the ears. Use your hand to tuck each ear down as you clip around it.
- 6). Move to the front of the head and switch the clippers for scissors. Decide how short you want the top hair to be and use your index and middle fingers to pick up sections of hair, pull them taut, and trim the top horizontally, parallel to the top of the head at a 90-degree angle.
- 7). Pull up new sections with a small piece of hair from the last section you just cut, so you can use it as a guide as to how short you should cut the next section.
- 8). Go around the head, pulling sections of hair from the crown outward to the side and trimming them parallel to the side of the head to match the side hairs.
- 9). Blend the cut sections by pulling hair outward with a comb and trimming the edges with the clipper, using the longest guard attachment. You can also use scissors to blend, if you prefer. Whichever you use, hold the clipper or scissors at a 45-degree angle to give the sides a blended look.
