What is Bonjour for Windows Vista?
- Bonjour is a standalone application that searches for other computers, printers -- USB and other types -- external hard drives and other devices that have an Internet Protocol address that my be present on your home or business computer's network. Once found, Bonjour allows and accepts information from the other computer/device, including music, video and other media files, and processes it within your computer.
- The process of finding additional computers and devices is automatic and doesn't require you to enter the other device's IP address or additional parameters. This is handy when you want to listen to music from a non-Windows Vista system or view videos from an external drive connected to another Vista or other Windows system. Bonjour also enables automatic IP address naming without the need of setting up a network server.
- The application works without your input and any found devices automatically appear within iTunes' main interface screen. To access a found device, just click on the device's name and navigate to the music, video or other file you want to open. Bonjour assigns each device a specific name that's pulled from the device's configuration. The application also lets you view graphic files within iTunes as well as sync any files to a portable device including an iPod or iPad.
- Bonjour is automatically downloaded when you access and download iTunes for Windows from the Apple iTunes website or another download service. The application installs at the same time as iTunes and is completely free of charge. You also don't need to enter a serial or product identification number to use the application. Note, if you uninstall iTunes, the Bonjour application remains on your system and must be manually removed via the Windows Uninstall utility.
