DIY Upright Stand for Laptops
- 1). Set the fence on the table saw so it is 1½ inches away from the dado blade. Raise the dado blade so it is 3 inches above the table. Run the board across the blade, keeping the 17-inch edge against the fence. You will have a 1-by-3-by-17-inch groove down the center of the board. This groove will hold your laptop. This stand is intended for laptops up to 1-inch thick. Laptops that are thinner will work fine in this stand. Laptops that are thicker are heavier, and are not suitable for this type of stand.
- 2). Replace the dado blade with the regular 1/8-inch blade. Raise it to 5 inches above the table and angle it at 70-degrees toward the fence. Position the fence 4 inches away from the blade. Run the board across the blade twice, keeping the 17-inch sides against the fence and the groove facing upward. You will have an angled cut along each 17-inch edge of the board.
- 3). Sand the stand down using your medium-grade and fine-grade sandpaper. Wipe the laptop stand clean using your tack cloth and apply your wood stain. Let the stand dry before setting your closed laptop in the stand.
