The Da Vinci Code -- Prices Realized
With all the buzz about "The Da Vinci Code" and the movie starring Tom Hanks, it's interesting to see what's being collected, what's selling and prices realized. Although more items are sure to be popping up after the movie opens, right now it's books that are being collected.
Highest prices are seen for autographed first editions of The Da Vinci Code, next would be the unautographed truefirst edition hardback books.
The book club version is sometimes confused with authentic first editions. Although the book club versions have the correct copyright information, they do not meet all the following criteria:

Recent prices (sold) online for autographed versions of "The Da Vinci Code" first editions over the past few months have ranged from highs of $900, $750, $650. (May 2006) down to quite a few in the $250. price range.
Unautographed first editions sell for much less, with prices bouncing around a lot. Recent high prices range from around $170. down to books in the $125. range.
Note:
There were numerous auctions that advertised first editions selling for a lot less than the above prices, but closer inspection shows that many of these did not meet the above criteria.
These lower priced books usually were book club editions, later printings or softcovers.

Unautographed first editions of Brown's earlier book have been selling in the $200 - $300 price range, while autographed versions have sold for as high as $1200. on eBay.
