Kayaking has been practiced on the River Thames for more than 70 years--since being started at Teddington's Royal Canoe Club. The activity's popularity has surged with a number of clubs offering tuition for beginners along Regents Canal. Popular destinations are Hampton Court where you can get up close to the diverse wildlife along the River Thames. For those with more experience there is the opportunity to travel through Central London, including under the iconic Tower Bridge. - The London Eye overlooks the River Thameslondon eye at sunset image by Adam Edwards from Fotolia.com

At the turn of the millennium cycling was a precarious activity in London with heavy traffic endangering the lives and health of bicycle enthusiasts. In 2010 the city is a much different place for bicyclists with numerous official cycle routes and bicycle paths being regularly introduced. Organizations such as London Cycling Campaign are dedicated to getting more people on bikes in the capital and offer practical advice about safety and ways you can get involved in continuing to make London a pro-cycling city. TFL introduced in August 2010 a cycle hire plan designed to allow everyone to hire a bike in the capital at designated docking stations with free travel for trips that last fewer than 30 minutes. - Hyde Park in LondonLondon - Hyde Park image by XtravaganT from Fotolia.com

While the English summer can never be guaranteed to bring endless days of perfect sunshine, once temperatures soar, Londoners cool themselves in one of the growing number of urban outdoor lidos. Lidos open from May to September with the majority located away from Central London. Some of the finest are found at Brockwell, Hornsey Park Road and London Fields, while Tooting Bec, as of August 2010, boasts the largest open-air swimming pool in Europe.
