Proper Way to Wrap a Wrist

104 11

    Selecting an ACE Bandage

    • ACE bandages come in different widths, ranging from 2 in. to 4 in. The width of the bandage should be chosen in relation to the size of the arm. For children and smaller adults, a 2 in. wrap should be used. For average-size adults, a 3 in. wrap is appropriate. For larger or taller adults, a 4 in. wrap is best.

    Step 1

    • Wrap the bandage once around the wrist, then beginning at the outer wrist, wrap up across the palm. The wrap should fall between your thumb and index finger.

    Step 2

    • Go back across the hand, taking the wrap under the thumb (this should create an "X" on the back of the hand). Now, take the wrap between the thumb and index finger and pull the wrap down toward the wrist.

    Step 3

    • Now, wrap the bandage once around the wrist, then lift up around the hand to create a criss-cross effect around the side of the hand near the pinkie finger. Continue criss-crossing the bandages, wrapping around the wrist and X-ing around the back of the hand.

    Step 4

    • Once the bandage area runs out, tuck the end under the wrap or secure it with a metal pin. Observe the wrist and hands for signs of too much compression: If your fingers begin to tingle, turn color, or feel cold, you should re-wrap.
