Ivory Queen Charters in Homer, Alaska, offers numerous fishing, sightseeing and hunting trips. Guests can choose from full-day or overnight excursions lasting up to five days. As of 2010, Ivory Queen Charters has more than 25 years of experience, and any of its excursions can include up to six guests. It will prepare your trip to best suit your fishing or hunting requirements, featuring state-of-the-art equipment, as well as meeting all necessary safety requirements. All fishing licenses can be purchased ahead of time through the state of Alaska's Department of Fish and Game website.

    Halibut Charters

    • This is the most common fishing trip available through Ivory Queen Charters. Plan to spend a full day out fishing, leaving the harbor at 7 a.m. and returning around 5 p.m. The fishing boat will travel approximately 40 miles out to sea and go hunting for fresh halibut. When fishing for halibut, there is a limit of two good-sized fish per person. Be sure to bring your fishing license, food and drink and warm clothes.

    Combo Charters

    • Another full-day trip Ivory Queen offers is the long-range combo charters. These trips are available after July 1 of each year and take you farther out to sea to the Gulf of Alaska, where large sea swells are sure to be present. If you're prone to seasickness, you will not want to sign up for this excursion. On this trip you'll be fishing not only for halibut, but lingcod as well. This is a much tougher boat trip, not only with the sea swells, but also with the lingcod's more aggressive behavior. Combo charters like this one leave the harbor around 6 a.m. and return about 5 p.m., depending on weather. There is even a chance to encounter yellow-eyed rockfish on this excursion as they can be found farther out in these chilly waters. For this trip, you'll want to bring an extra set of warm clothes in case you get wet from the rougher waters spraying onto the boat deck. Also remember to bring your required fishing license and plenty of food and drinks.

    Overnight Charters

    • Ivory Queen Charters actually prefers to be out more than a day at a time, so if a multi-day charter is what you're looking for, it will happily oblige you. It believes multiple days out on the water will give its guests the most for their money and get the true sense of what Alaska fishing is all about. These types of fishing trips will travel to multiple locations, including an area known as the Long Range grounds where salmon, rockfish, lingcod and halibut can be found.

On overnight trips, the boat will anchor in a nearby bay and you'll be able to cook and eat something you've caught from the day's fishing trip. Guests can also enjoy the views of this amazing area, including the mountains, sea and roaming wildlife on the shores. All food and drinks are included on overnight trips, so the only items you'll be required to bring are a fishing license, clothes and other amenities.
