Does a Maytag Dryer Have a Circuit Breaker or Reset on It?

    Circuit Breakers

    • Maytag electric and gas clothes dryers have two circuit breakers typically found in your home's main circuit box. One breaker supports the heating element while the other controls the drum. The circuit breakers provide the appliance's main electric supply that's delivered through the power cord inserted into an electrical outlet. If the breakers trip, cutting the electric supply to your dryer, you can restore power by resetting them.

    Thermal Fuse

    • Most Maytag dryers have a thermal fuse or switch. It's a safety mechanism that shuts down the heating element or dryer, depending on how it works on your specific model, if the dryer overheats. Once it blows, your dryer will have only limited function until the fuse is replaced. For example, it might spin but not heat or it might stop working altogether. You can't reset a thermal fuse, and resetting the dryer's circuit breakers won't fully resolve the problem.

    Door Latch

    • On the interior frame of your Maytag's door is a latch or switch that keeps the door firmly secure while the dryer tumbles. It's meant to prevent you from opening the door when the drum is spinning and getting injured. Your dryer will only run if the door latch is securely fastened. If the door latch is broken, it can impair your dryer's function. Check the door latch to make sure it's locking properly. Replace it if it's damaged.

    Control Panel

    • Maytag dryers have a control panel that allows you to select the drying cycle. After you select a cycle and hit the start button, the dryer should start running. If your dryer isn't coming on and you tried resetting its circuit breakers, the control panel's wiring might be faulty. If a wire has come loose or shorted, the control panel won't be able to turn the dryer on. Contact a dryer repair technician and, if necessary, have him replace a defective component to restore your dryer's performance.
