How to Buy Plant Cuttings
- 1). Visit your local farmer's market, nursery or greenhouse for potted or bare-root cuttings of plants local to your region and sure to grow well in your area. The sellers of the cutting can tell you the proper care for the plant at purchase, such as soil conditions and the frequency of watering.
- 2). Check with major retailers such as garden centers and home improvement stores for cuttings. Sort through the cuttings available of the type of plant you want. Find the strongest, healthiest looking plant available because shipping and mass production might not provide the best quality of plants.
- 3). Shop online at trusted garden retailers to buy directly from a well-known provider. Often these growers will offer a higher quality cutting at a higher price than the big-box stores, but the success of transplant is frequently guaranteed with the sale of the plant.
- 4). Ask family and friends for referrals to find out where they purchased cuttings in the past and how happy they were with the transaction and the plant.
