Flight Travel Tips
- Besides essentials like your wallet and cellphone, consider what you would need to get by for a few days if your luggage is misplaced. Such items may include prescription medication, toiletries, and a change of underwear. Also bring along reading material, an entertainment device such as an MP3 player and snacks (many airlines serve only minimal refreshments). Buy a small bottle of water after passing through the security line so you don't have to depend on flight attendants.
- Bring your own inflatable travel pillow and a sleeping mask. Noise reduction headphones will help block out screaming children and loud snoring. In case the cabin is drafty, bring a light sweater or a sweatshirt. Wear slip-on shoes for easy removal (slip-ons will also make passing through security easier). Tall passengers may prefer to sit in an exit row for more legroom.
- If you're squeamish about flying, ask your doctor to prescribe anti-anxiety medication. You can buy over-the-counter medication to soothe your stomach. Make sure you are comfortable in your seat and able to move around the cabin if necessary (for this reason, you may prefer an aisle seat). Drink water and take deep breathes to calm your nerves. Avoid alcohol if you are also taking prescription drugs.
