- 1). Open any folder in Windows. It will pop up as a separate window.
- 2). Click the "Tools" menu button at the top of the folder window. Choose the "Folder Options" command in this menu. A pop-up window will appear.
- 3). Select the "Use Windows classic folders" option in the "General" tab of this pop-up configuration window. This removes the task pane and sets the folder to function using the Windows Classic folder design.
- 4). Press the "Apply" button.
- 5). Click the "View" tab.
- 6). Locate additional settings in the "Advanced Settings" list at the bottom of the "View" tab. Many problems in Windows folders can be fixed using these settings. For example, if you are unable to see system files in a folder but need them for a particular task, choose the "Show hidden files and folders" option.
- 7). Press the "Apply to All Folders" button on this tab. This ensures that all folders on the computer, including new folders that are created later, will follow the same Windows Classic format when opened, and use the identical configuration selected in the "Advanced Settings" list.
