    • 1). Purchase and install Quicken on your PC if it doesn't already have it.

    • 2). Change the date settings on the Mac to four-digit years. To do this, click on "System Preferences" then "International." In that panel, click on "Formats" and "Customize." You will be able to choose the "20xx" format. Click "OK" and close system preferences.

    • 3). Open Quicken on your Mac. Select "Lists" then "Hidden Accounts" and check "Show Hidden Accounts."

    • 4). Ensure all your account, category and class names are Windows-compatible. They cannot have any special characters such as "%" or "&", cannot be named "Cash" and cannot have any duplicate names between categories and accounts.

    • 5). Open the transactions register and ensure that all transaction names are 29 characters or fewer. Cut them to a maximum of 30 lines, clear your pending online payments menu and empty the download transactions menu.

    • 6). Open your securities list by clicking "List" and "Securities." Ensure all have upper-case lettering and re-index them by pressing the command key and "B" simultaneously.

    • 7). Click on "File" and "Save Copy" to make a duplicate of your file. Save it in a different folder than the original.

    • 8). Open the copied file and print it. This will let you check for accuracy once you have transferred your data to PC.

    • 9). Click "File" and "Export" in Quicken Mac with your duplicate copy open. Save it as a Quicken Interchange file by selecting "Full Export" and name the file "Export.qif." The file extension is important, as Windows needs this to open it.
