  Bedding bass are often responsible for huge tournament limits during the spring. It's the one time every year where there are more big bass in the shallows than any other time. Locating and catching bedding bass can be a very time-consuming and tedious process.
  
  

Locating Bedding Bass

• Polarized sunglasses area useful tool to locate bedding fish. The most common lens colors for this are amber and light brown because they enhance the light that's available while educing any potential glare, allowing an angler to see fish and bottom details much easier. Buy the best polarized sunglasses within your budget.
  
  Water clarity is also an important factor to consider when searching for bedding bass. Ideally, clear water is the first choice when searching for bedding bass. Many anglers will immediately give up when presented with dirty water. That's a mistake you don't want to make. It's possible to locate bedding fish in under a foot of visibility if you keep a focused eye. Locate beds by closely watching the surface for any little swirls or disturbances in the shallows.
  
  

Oversized Baits

• Once a bedding fish has been located, the next half of the challenge is catching that fish. Presentation of the bait plays an important role. Use an oversized bait to make the bass feel threatened. For this, a 6- to 7-inch tube bait with a 1 ounce weight on 50 lbs. braided line is one choice. Cast the bait directly onto the center of the bed while watching the bass for any reaction. Next, hop the bait up and down on its bed in an attempt to initialize a strike.
  
  

Finesse Baits

• If the bass ignores the oversized bait,try a finesse approach. A 3- to 3.5-inch tube bait with a 1/16th or 1/8th ounce weight works. Cast the bait directly onto the bed and look for any reaction from the fish. Twitch the bait in a very subtle manner on the bed. In either case, if the fish ignores the bait and is loosely circling its bed, it's unlikely the fish is going to strike. On the other hand, if the bass gives any reaction to a bait, be patient and keep working the bait.
