Setting Up a Network Printer With Windows XP
- 1). Open the "Start" menu and click on "Control Panel." Click "Printers and Faxes" then choose "Add Printer." Press "Next" in the window that opens.
- 2). Choose "Local printer attached to this computer" and un-check the box next to "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer." Press "Next."
- 3). Select the radio button labeled "Create a new port." Pick "Standard TCP/IP Port" from the "Type of Port" drop-down menu. Hit "Next."
- 4). Click "Next" when the "Add Printer Port Wizard" opens. Type the IP address of the network printer in the "Printer Name or IP Address" field. Click "Finish" when the process is complete.
- 5). Select the brand and model of the printer on the "Install Printer Software" dialog box. Press the "Windows Update" button to allow Windows XP to find drivers for the printer online if it is not listed in the drivers currently available on the system. Click "Next."
- 6). Pick the "Keep existing driver" option on the next page. Push "Next." Enter a name for the printer and select the proper radio button if you want it to be the default printer. Hit "Next" again.
- 7). Click the "Do not share this printer" option. Push "Next." Select "Yes" on the next screen to print a test page. Click "Next" and ensure the test page prints correctly.
- 8). Press "Finish" to close the Wizard and complete setup of the network printer.
