Moving-in is often seen as a big step in a relationship.
However, not everyone sees it this way.
In fact, it is often treated as a natural progression in the relationship by men.
They often miss the significance of taking the relationship to the next level, signified by moving in.
The thing to remember is that it is not meant as a slight.
It simply means that it carries less weight with men than if does with women.
As is often the case, men tend to miss the social significance of the increased intimacy, moving in brings.
To make moving in go smoothly, you need to accept that your boyfriend is not going to make it a big deal.
You can make moving in exciting by inviting some close friends and make the move a more social occasion.
Giving yourself a chance to address the importance of this step with others who appreciate how big a step this really is so you can enjoy the excitement and not have the event brushed aside.
In fact, inviting others can sometimes help your boyfriend realize that it is a bigger deal than he may initially have believed.
If your friends see things going badly they can even perhaps help drop some hints for your boyfriend to help him clue in.
Making a big dinner on the evening that you move in may not go well if the move takes a whole day so it may be prudent to have that inaugural meal the following night when friends can attend and still leave time to celebrate before the two of you are actually left alone for the first awkward night together.
If you have already spent the night together than many of the surprises have been dealt with.
If not, there may be some issues that come up that first morning that you may not have considered.
This may be the first time they see you without make-up.
This may be the first time you see each others morning rituals.
The pressure to make it all fit together can be stressful.
It is often a good idea to get that first night behind you before moving in together.
This makes it two big steps instead of one giant step.
Many couples under-estimate how their partners' morning rituals may irritate them.
Particularly if they are used to doing it in private without needing to accommodate someone else whom may need to get ready at the same time.
Are you ready for their whiskers in the sink or for them to see you shaving your under arms? These are less than glamorous processes.
This is when moving in together becomes real.
This is also where you can create a new level of intimacy.
Not making an issue of these awkward moments can show that you are willing to accept your partner at their worst.
As they are accepting you.
You now have a situation that will lend itself to movie nights, eating in, breakfast in bed, and a level of intimacy that makes or breaks relationships.
So making the move go smoothly opens the door to smoother experiences down the road.
Accepting that many of these life altering events that you will share together may go un-acknowledged by your boyfriend.
They tend not to notice when things are going well and are surprised when things go wrong.
Safe to say many men spend their lives with their heads in a dark quiet place that causes them to miss much of the finer things going on around them.
If you find a man who appreciates the importance of moving in together.
Enjoy the moment, they will be few and far between.
Moving in with your boyfriend will be what you make it.
Take the time to enjoy your own feelings without expectations from your partner and appreciate that they may not show the importance of this moment as openly as you and your friends do.
That doesn't mean that the importance isn't there it just means they don't think it needs to be celebrated, sad but true.
That first morning will take some effort to make it memorable.
Your boyfriend may cross boundaries more freely than you, but it is mostly because they don't see the boundaries to begin with.
You may need to look past the indiscretions and focus on the newness of the new moments of intimacy your living arrangement now provides.
