What"s Wrong With Bottled Drinking Water

103 8
Over the past ten years, the bottled drinking water industry has skyrocketed! It's the fastest growing segment of the beverage industry.
This is partly due to convenience, and partly due to concerns about drinking water safety.
But is bottled water safer than tap water? Well...
yes, and no.
There are a ton of different types of drinking water, everything from Perrier to your local supermarket house brand.
Just as the taste varies, the quality of these waters vary.
Don't assume that just because one water is a lot more expensive then another that it's necessarily better.
Anyone remember the fiasco when benzene (a highly carcinogenic chemical) was found in Perrier? The real truth about bottled drinking water is this: it's not necessarily any better than tap water! The U.
S.
FDA said that, "Companies that market bottled water as being safer than tap water are defrauding the American public.
" That's quite a strong statement! Bottled water companies spend billions of dollars trying to promote this image that their waters are healthier.
I'm not saying that all bottled waters are not healthier than tap water, only that some of them are.
Why is this? Well, for one thing there are no government standard the require bottled water to be any better or purer than tap water.
As a matter of fact, for some potential contaminants, there are no standards at all.
For instance, there's a standard covering the concentration of e-coli bacteria you can have in tap water...
none.
There is no such standard for bottled water.
Now, don't leave this article thinking that your bottled water is infected with e-coli bacteria.
It's not.
It's just that there are fewer governmental standards covering bottled water than there are tap water.
So, why should bottled water necessarily be safer and purer than tap water? (By the way, there's another issue with the bottled drinking water industry.
All those bottles! Did you know we create over 60,000,000 empty bottles every day? That's really bad for the environment.
These things aren't biodegradable, you know.
At my house, we used to drink a lot of bottled water.
Like everyone else, I thought it was better.
Then I learned about what I just told you.
What we decided to do was to filter our own water, so that we could insure that it was pure and clean.
At first I thought filtering my own water and putting it into containers so I could carry it around was going to be a real headache.
But it's not.
Even if it were, for your health it would be worth it.
Turns out I didn't need a good bottled drinking water.
I just needed a good water filter!
