When the cold winds are blowing, visitors to Kansas can still break out the swimsuits and goggles for a splashing good time. Indoor water parks can be found in the Kansas City area, providing young and old with opportunities to slip and slide, dip and dunk-- all in climate-controlled comfort. - The indoor water park at Kansas City's Great Wolf Lodge includes water slides, interactive play areas, pools and hot tubs. A four-story interactive play area anchors the water park with bridges and nets to climb, water to shoot and squirt and a 1,000-gallon bucket that dumps on unsuspecting guests every few minutes. Older guests will enjoy body slides and raft slides that twist and turn inside and outside of the building. In March 2010, Great Wolf Lodge is scheduled to open The Triple Twist, a five-story drop into a series of funnels, twists and turns before splashdown. The water park is open only to guests at the Great Wolf Lodge hotel.

greatwolf.com - Located in the Kansas City suburb of Roeland Park, the city's Aquatic Center is open year-round, with limited activities during the winter months and full water park amenities during the summer months. A dome covers the pool from September through May, offering year-round access to a competition swimming pool, zero depth entry, sprayers and fountains, diving well and inflatable slides. When the dome is removed in May, additional features become available, including additional water slides, a vortex pool with a fountain and a smaller youth pool with a slide and sprayer.

The first phase of Schlitterbahn is an outdoor water park. However, the indoor water park is under construction, with all facilities expected to be complete in 2011. Schlitterbahn, which operates water parks in other parts of the country, is well known for its water transportainment system, which allows users to float in inner tubes from feature to feature without exiting the water.
