How to Make a Hanging Cloud

    • 1). Select a sturdy paper for the base of your hanging cloud, such as poster board or card stock. Buy the materials from the store, or use recycled supplies such as file folders or the back of a cereal box.

    • 2). Sketch the cloud design on the paper. For whimsical clouds, create bubble shapes extending all around the shape. Or make realistic cloud designs by researching different types of clouds. For example, a stratus cloud is somewhat flat and extends horizontally.

    • 3). Cut out around the sketched cloud shape with a pair of scissors.

    • 4). Place a dab of white glue on a cotton ball and adhere it to the surface of the cutout cloud shape. Adhere the cotton ball in its natural round and puffy shape. Or pull the cotton ball apart with your hands to create long strands of the material, which will make a more stringy cloud effect when glued to the paper. Cover the entire cutout with cotton balls, gluing the fibers to the front and back of the design. Allow the glue to dry completely.

    • 5). Use a hole punch to make a hole in the middle of the top edge of the cutout cloud. This hole should be at least 1 inch down from the top.

    • 6). String a piece of clear fishing line through the hole. Pull the line through until it is even on both ends. Tie the fishing line in a knot at the top. Use this loop to hang the cloud from anywhere, such as a tree branch or wall hook. Press a thumb tack over the loop to hang the cloud from the ceiling.
