- 1). Prepare the work area by laying the tarp under the sawhorses. Place the wood that you want to age over the sawhorses. Put on the rubber gloves. You may also want to wear eye protection when working with these materials.
- 2). Mix 10 ounces of sodium tetraborate powder in four ounces of warm water. When the powder dissolves, add in one gallon of cold water and mix the liquids together.
- 3). Dip a scrub brush into the liquid and scrub the wood on both sides with the solution. Allow the water to absorb into the wood. Repeat the process one more time. Set aside the wood and scrub down any other pieces of wood that you want to age.
- 4). Allow the wood to sit for 24 hours. Let the wood pieces dry on a flat surface for best results and to prevent warping. If the wood does not look old enough, you can repeat the scrub process with more sodium tetraborate powder. Rinse the wood with water and allow to dry for 24 hours before using the wood for any projects.
