Well folks, since it was a looooong labor, this is going to be long too!

I was admitted at noon on Tuesday, 1/30. They did an ultrasound and determined that baby just wasn't going to be growing anymore, because of my high blood pressure. I was put on a monitor, and found that I was having some quite strong, regular contractions already.

I felt a tightness, but no pain. Around 6:00 they gave me a dose of gel. I had found at my exam Monday that internal exams were *very* painful, and that certainly continued to be true throughout this ordeal!

I was at 0% dilation and effacement when admitted, so we had a long way to go. The gel seemed to be working very well, so though they had planned on giving me three doses, I only got one. Continued to be monitored and continued strong, painless contractions throughout the night. Felt very well, hungry, and bored out of my skull. Hubby was great about keeping me company though! The room had a chair that folded into a bed for him to spend the night.

Next morning, Wed., at 5 am they moved me into an LDR room. Was put on a pitocin IV, which hurt a lot going in and continued to be sore throughout! Now I could only get out of bed to go to the bathroom, which was a major drag because I was sooo bored and had to lug the IV pole with me, unplug the monitor cords. First the upped the pitocin level every half hour, and I was getting strong contractions but if I lay on my side, I didn't even feel them.

If I sat up or lay on my back, I felt them but they didn't hurt. This was true for much of my labor. Then they started upping the pit level every 20 min, then 15 min...all the way up to the maximum dosage. Waited, waited...

Was checked for dilation. 1 cm...hours later, 1 1/2 cm...hours later 2 cm... They did let me sit up for a while in a rocking chair, but then they decided that my blood pressure was too high and made me lay down again. At 4 pm I was half asleep when I heard a "pop" and my water *gushed* out. It was so weird! Told the nurses, and they checked and I was still only 2 cm. They didn't tell me, but hubby found out that I had till 4 the next day to dilate all the way and deliver or else I'd get a c-section. Was frightened at that prospect!
