How to Water Plum Trees

104 6
    • 1). Water newly planted plum trees thoroughly after planting with a watering can or garden hose on low pressure. Because plum tree roots are close to the surface, too much water pressure could expose and damage the roots.

    • 2). Monitor the soil. If it starts to look and feel as if it's drying out, water around the base of the tree. Pay close attention during long droughts and dry spells, watering your plum tree manually if there hasn't been a lot of rain.

    • 3). Water plum trees that are planted near fences and homes slightly more than you would your other plum trees. Because of their position, they will require more water during their lifetime.

    • 4). Avoid overwatering plum trees. Overwatering will swell the fruit when it starts to grow, causing it to pop and break open. Over time, this fruit will rot more quickly than it can be plucked and used, attracting unwanted pests.
