Decorating small pumpkins for fall is an excellent alternative to carving larger pumpkins. During the fall months, you can find a variety of small pumpkins at farmers' markets and grocery stores. When choosing small pumpkins to decorate, look for those with a smooth texture and no visible signs of mold. Be sure to wipe the small pumpkins off with a damp cloth and dry with a paper towels before decorating. There are lots of small pumpkin decorating ideas to choose from, making this a fun craft choice for kids. - You can create a unique character using construction paper or felt, scissors and glue. Cut out different facial designs or crazy shapes and glue them to the pumpkin. Get creative and glue googly eyes on the pumpkins' faces. Look on the Internet for spooky design ideas. If you're decorating small pumpkins with children, cut out basic shapes such as a triangles or circles for the eyes or nose and glue the shapes onto the pumpkins.
- Use acrylic paints to create a design on your small pumpkins. You can draw your idea on paper first and then apply it to the pumpkin using paints. Create the small pumpkins to look like you and your family members to add some humor to your fall festivities. Paint a ghoulish face if you want traditional spooky-looking pumpkins.
- Add hats, wigs and capes to your small pumpkins. If you design a witch, use the stalk for her nose, add a wig to the top of the pumpkin (you can secure the wig with small nails) and place a witch's hat on top.
- Mix all sorts of craft materials together for this idea. Draw bat wings on black construction paper, cut the wings out and glue them to the back of the pumpkin. Use paints or markers to draw a bat face. You can even use googly eyes on the face to make the bat look quirky. Make a vampire bat by adding sharp white teeth using white paint.
