How to Rig a Swamp Frog

    Instructions

    • 1). Use a slip-bobber to fish with swamp frogs. The advantage of using a slip-bobber to fish with swamp frogs is twofold. First, it allows you to change the depth at which you are fishing simply by sliding a knotted string up or down your fishing line. The depth at which you fish is equal to the distance between your string bobber stopper and your hook. Second, the slip-bobber will respond very little to the frog's movements yet it will respond to a fish's bite.

    • 2). Slide the string bobber stopper onto the fishing line. The string bobber stopper is what will allow you to freely and easily control your depth without the need to keep a bunch of line out for your slip-bobber.

    • 3). String the bead onto the fishing line. The bead will not pass over the string bobber stopper. The bead will prevent the slip-bobber from sliding over the string bobber stopper.

    • 4). Slide the slip-bobber onto the fishing line. Make sure that you slide the top of the slip-bobber onto the fishing line first. If you do it the other way, the slip-bobber will rest upside down when it floats in the water.

    • 5). Tie your hook. Use a Palomar knot as this is a very simple knot to tie that is also quite sturdy.

    • 6). Grab the swamp frog and place it in your non-dominant hand. You will want to do the hooking with your dominant hand.

    • 7). Hook the swamp frog to the right or left of the spinal cord about halfway up the back and out through the belly. The whole point of using the swamp frog for bait is that he is alive. His movements are what attract the fish.
