How to Convert Your Engine to Hybrid
- 1). Choose and purchase the conversion kit which best suits your existing vehicle. Conversion kits contain several motors, and you will want to choose the one equivalent to the number of drive wheels on your car. Make certain the kit has included steel adapter plates.
- 2). Open the hood while the car is off. Remove the existing engine. If your replacement engine requires gasoline power to recharge the batteries during operation, install a gasoline-powered generator to recharge the battery system.
- 3). Attach the adapter plates to the engine mounts, and tighten the nuts and bolts with sockets and wrenches. The steel plates must be secure enough to withstand acceleration, stopping and the overall weight of the electrical engine.
- 4). Install the motors needed to operate your vehicle. Typically gasoline-propelled cars need two to four electric motors to equal the prior engine power.
- 5). Obtain and install batteries required to run and recharge your new engines. Typically, you will need two batteries to operate a four-engine electric motor system. Follow the battery manufacturer guidelines for installation.
