How to Make a Throw Style Bedspread

    • 1). Measure and cut two pieces from the fabric 60 inches wide by 72 inches long. Note: If the selvage sides are white or printed on, cut it from the edge. You can easily adjust your width measurement to what is left. Place one piece right side up on your work surface. Starting in the center of one short edge, position an end of the fringe. Lay the fringe on the fabric with the finished edge of the fringe even with the raw edge of the fabric. Pin the fringe around all four edges of the fabric piece. Sew the fringe to the fabric piece as close to the pinned edge as possible.

    • 2). Lay the sewn fringe piece flat on your work surface with the right side up. Place the other fabric piece on top with the right side down, sandwiching the fringe in between. Match up the edges and pin the two pieces together on all four sides. Sew the pinned edges together using a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Leave a 6-inch opening in the center of one short side for turning.

    • 3). Clip all four corners of the throw style bedspread. Turn the bedspread right side out through the 6-inch opening. Insert your scissors inside the throw style bedspread to gently push the corners out to form crisp angles. Use caution that you do not push the scissors through the seam.

    • 4). Fold the opening to the inside 1/4 inch, press and pin. Press the edges of the throw style bedspread to lay the seams flat. Top stitch a decorative stitch or a zig zag stitch around the edges of the bedspread as close to the seam edge as possible. Use a matching thread to coordinate with the throw style bedspread fabric. You will be closing the opening as you top stitch the edges.
