Finding the Therapist With the Right Qualifications to Treat Your Anxiety

103 4
If you're looking for a therapist to help you cope with or defeat your anxiety, you probably have quite a few questions about which one to choose, and how to be sure they are the best one for you.
There are a few certainties that you should know about the qualifications that a therapist might (or might not) have that will certainly help you in your quest to find the right treatment...
Psychologists have a doctoral degree in psychology.
This means that they are considered the experts in their field and have continuing educational requirements they must meet.
While more expensive than other therapists, psychologists do not have the ability to prescribe medication but will always be held to the standard that medical doctors have come to be held do.
Social workers and licensed professional counselors do not have doctoral degrees.
However, they are required by most states to have at least a master's degree in the field they're practicing in, as well as have post-masters experience.
They are more dedicated toward coping with the anxiety and how it affects not just you and your family, but your ability to integrate and function in society and public settings.
One of the best resources you can have is your primary care physician.
While not specially trained in anxiety, they will have the contacts and experience that will allow them to accurately assess your specific situation and recommend not only the best course of action, but the best people to help you with that course of action as well.
