NewBracing and a Lighter Back The Ovation LX guitar is constructed with a new lighter back material.
Miniscule bubbles of glass called microspheres are responsible for the weight loss.
The new Lyrachord has all the same durability of its ancestors but weighs nearly 33% less.
Though the back is machine-molded lots of craftsmanship goes into the shaping, fitting, and finishing involved with attaching it to the guitar's neck.
The guitar's bowl is s designed to perfectly accommodate the neck angle.
A very precise machine then attaches the neck exactly how it should be, without any errors.
Ovation LX guitars have solid spruce soundboards outfitted with a scalloped X pattern done with laser vibrometers.
This is done by plotting the vibration of designated spots to the top and seeking out negative zones that can be discarded with the precision position and scalloping of the braces.
It is incredible that the all of the bracing is so precisely radiused in order to create the slightest arch on the top.
When the wood expands because of moisture, the guitar always expands outward.
This prevents concave spots from developing and warping the guitar.
The unusual wood epaulettes around many sound holes on the Ovation LX and is inlaid on the top giving a plush feeling.
The birch back supports the area surrounding the sound holes.
Neck Development The shining star of Ovation LX neck technology is the Kaman bar.
It offers absolute stability along with consistency, yet adds very little weight to the guitar.
Because the Ovation LX body is lighter, it also requires a lighter neck.
Ovation wanted to keep the stability of the Kaman bar.
This new replacement has a neck and joint system combing efficient bolt-on strength with the precision of a set neck.
The precision-fit neck joint is supported by bolts extending through the Lyrachord section of the bowl into the aluminum block that has been added to the heel.
The LX truss rod is composed of a steel rod threaded on each end into tiny blocks that have been welded into another parallel square rod.
The final result produces a highly mobile rod.
When facing one side it increases the neck's bow.
In the other direction it pulls back the head.
Ovation LX players never have to experience frustrating moments that come along with a loose truss rod.
Ovation LX fretboards do not have direct contact with soundboards, eliminating any warping issues associated with glued on fingerboards.
This design makes it easy to replace damaged necks without destroying the entire neck joint.
This is a major innovation in acoustic guitars.
